The "Feed Our Hungry Neighbors" Garden
The Social Ministry Team believes in "God's Work - Our Hands" and has created a garden to "Feed Our Hungry Neighbors". The vegetables grown are used to cook meals for Aid for Friends and to provide fresh vegetables for the Somerton Interfaith Food Bank.

A spot was marked for
a 10 x 12 garden.

The plot was tilled by our landscaper,  John Iskra.

The soil was tested by Penn State Analytical Services and the recommended nutrients were added to the soil.
Aid for Friends suggested the following:
     Green beans
     Squash
     Zucchini
     Bell peppers
     Plum or Roma tomatoes

We've also planted bush beans, zucchini, and beets. Watch our garden grow!

July 26: We continue harvesting. Today we gathered
peppers,

cucumbers,
tomatoes,
zucchini, and green beans.

As of October 1, 2017, we have harvested:
  • 103 tomatoes
  •     8 cucumbers
  •   14 zucchini
  • 300 peppers
  •   24 quart bags of green beans
  •   20 beets
We have made an effort to share the produce equally between the
Somerton Interfaith Food Bank and Aid for Friends.

The garden now has a cover crop growing, which will put nutrients back in the soil for spring planting.
